BILINGUAL LEGAL ASSISTANT (Full Time Position)

Basic Functions:

To provide general administrative and client-related assistance to immigration attorneys by preparing immigration applications to be filed with Immigration Courts and with USCIS, managing the client database, providing interpretation support, undertaking legal research, helping draft motions and pleadings to be filed in court, and managing a diverse case load of various immigration matters.

Essential Functions:

  • Organize and maintain case files and databases;
  • Sort and distribute mail received by firm;
  • Schedule and make appointments;
  • Mail, fax, or arrange for delivery of legal correspondence to clients and court officials;
  • Make photocopies of correspondence, documents, and other printed matter;
  • Receive and place telephone calls; communicate with clients to follow up on document and information collection;
  • Utilize client database to maintain client notes, deadlines, and set tasks to complete objectives on matters;
  • Assist attorneys in collecting information such as employment, medical, and other records from clients;
  • Complete various immigration application forms to be filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services;
  • Assist in preparing motions and exhibit lists to be filed with immigration courts;
  • Submit articles and information from internet searches to attorneys for review and approval;
  • Provide Spanish language translation and interpretation as necessary.

Requirements:

  • BA degree;
  • At least 1 year of work experience in the immigration field or in law firm environment preferred;
  • Spanish fluency required with excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Spanish;
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills;
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds and personalities;
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible;
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software and Adobe;
  • Must have ability to prioritize assignments and work with minimal supervision;
  • Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
